Wild Cow Creamy, a local ice cream maker with an ice cream outpost on the Bangor Waterfront and shelf space in stores, is expanding. The company recently announced that it will soon also have a Belfast storefront.

Located in the former Pig Out BBQ location at 31-B Front St in Belfast, the ice cream parlor will feature a selection of Wild Cow’s flavors and perhaps even an expanded menu of options.

“We’re hoping to expand our menu and be able to potentially do waffles and other things like that. We have some other ideas and we’ll see how they pan out,” said Sarah Wilder, owner. “We’ll be able to have more flavors to offer each day.”

Wilder said that the company has made more than 80 flavors since opening a few years ago, including favorites like Strawberry Rhubarb, Cookies and Cream and French Vanilla.

“There will be baked goods as well because we’ll be able to make them there,” said Wilder, who hopes to open the store sometime in June, depending on when they obtain all the necessary approvals and permits in Belfast.

But why Belfast? Wilder and her husband Ryan Cowan are Belfast High School graduates and love the area.

“His parents live in Belfast, my parents live in Northport, so Belfast has always been our hometown. We love being right on the coast, being right on the water, and Belfast has come so far. When we were kids plants were closing and jobs were scarce, and now it’s blossoming into a great spot for tourists to visit and visitors to see the coast,” Wilder said. “When we found that there was a storefront available we decided to jump right on it. We’re really going to enjoy being able to go back down there and spend the summers being able to smell the ocean breeze and all that good stuff.”

But fear not, Queen City Wild Cow fans! The Bangor Waterfront location, which opened for the season last Saturday, will remain alive and well, and scooping up cones of all your favorites. This week’s selection includes the new Mexican Hot Chocolate flavor too … Mmmm.
