The Stillwater Avenue location for Bangor’s new Chick-fil-A — the first Maine outpost of the popular chicken sandwich fast food restaurant — is set to open on Thursday, Nov. 3. Before that, however, owner Todd Schultz has a fun event set to celebrate the business’s grand opening.
“Typically, when a new Chick-fil-A opens, they do a special giveaway for the first 100 people to come in, where they get a card that entitles them to the equivalent of one Chick-fil-A meal a week for a year,” said Schultz. “We wanted to do something a little different for Bangor, since this is the first one in Maine.”
The restaurant will still give out the First 100 gift cards, but winners of the First 100 lottery will also be taken on a promotional six-hour “road trip” around Bangor, helping area charities out along the way.
Residents of towns in northern and eastern Maine that want to participate must begin lining up at the Bangor Chick-fil-A on Stillwater Avenue at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2. At that point, either the first 100 people in line will each receive a card — or, if there’s more than 100 people, a lottery will be held. After that, winners will board buses and be taken to another location, where they will pack 10,000 meals for area shelters. After that, they will be taken to the Briar Patch in downtown Bangor, where each winner will select a children’s book, to be paid for by Chick-fil-A and then donated to the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Bangor. After that, winners will return to Chick-fil-A, where they will receive their prize.
“We thought this was a better use of people’s times. We wanted to give folks a chance to give back for these great causes,” said Schultz.
